Wildflowers

A decade or so ago, I wrote this poem and from this sprang the children’s picture book, Where Wildflowers Grow. In this, my siblings and I share our favorite childhood moments, now set in verse by me and beautifully illustrated in Impressionistic style by the wonderfully talented Tanweer Dar. I’m excited to share this delightful book with all of you. Poem below book cover.

Releasing Spring 2022

Wildflowers by Julie Kusma

Skipping stones,

muddy toes,

repose under Willow trees,

in these moments

my youth can’t escape me.

Crawdads,

a babbling brook,

and rows of corn,

to shadow my

first kiss.

Close my eyes

and back I go

to childhood days

when the wildflower

in me began to grow.
