Fallen

My “flight” was late, and it never was. Punctual were the returns to Heaven after deeds were done. But her skin glowed under the moonlight, and I found myself raptured with the sight. Would she lift upon my touch? Would Father know my sin if I lay with her tonight?

About: This piece was my third and final potential submission in the YeahWrite Super Challenge #18 where all work had to begin with the prompt “My flight was late.” Additionally, each submission had to be exactly 50 words.

  1. I’m very fond of angels as characters in horror / fantasy fiction for some reason. Neil Gaiman’s “The Price”, the song “Under Her Coat She Has Wings” and various other tragedies. Angel stories seem almost always to be tragic, even more than selkie stories.
